Red Flag warnings, fire maps, Nixle alerts, evacuation zones…these terms should be familiar to all of us in Sonoma County by now. With our first large wildland fire and our first Red Flag warning of the season both already here, I want to first and foremost thank all of our first responders currently responding to the Point Fire, and say that my heart goes out to all the residents impacted. Next month, beginning June 11th, the county will commence Budget Hearings for the Fiscal Year 2024/25. Like the State of California, though not to the same extreme, the county is working with far more limited resources this upcoming Fiscal Year than recent years prior. One-time funding the county received from the state and federal government amidst the COVID-19 pandemic has largely come to an end. Read full story

One of the defining issues of my last few years as Supervisor has been housing and development in the Sonoma Valley. First District constituents recognize the immense need for affordable housing in the Valley, but also express hesitation and concern around plans for larger scale development projects, including the Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC). Here, I want to share my thoughts on the Eldridge Renewal project submitted by Keith Rogal and Grupe Company, the developer selected by the state Department of General Services for the redevelopment of the SDC.
