The leaves are finally turning and rainy weather is upon us - it's fall! Fall also marks the start of our season of celebration, and I always look forward to the ways our community decorates our residences, businesses, and public spaces, be it for Halloween, Día de los Muertos, Christmas, or for any reason at all! A community member recently sent me this stunning photo of El Molino Central in the Springs. Public art is such a wonderful way to express our identities, cultures, and creativity, and I hope to feature more in my newsletter going forward. Read full story

Sonoma County lands critical to removing carbon from atmosphere: Report
Sonoma County has the potential for large-scale carbon sequestration – removing carbon from the atmosphere to help the county achieve its goal of net-zero emissions by 2030 – according to a report presented to the Board of Supervisors today. Read full story

Sonoma County authorizes $2 million for fourth round of vegetation management projects
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors authorized another $2 million today for projects that protect residents from wildfires by creating fuel breaks, expanding defensible space around homes, and removing vegetation along evacuation routes and in fire-prone landscapes. Read full story

Roseland development project to enter demolition phase; groundbreaking expected in 2024
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today authorized the county’s Community Development Commission to execute contracts to begin demolition to make way for the long-awaited Roseland Development Project, Tierra De Rosas. The demolition phase will include the installation of infrastructure for the Tierra De Rosas project and will play a critical role in the Casa Roseland Project, the affordable housing portion of the project. Sonoma County names Dr. Tanya Phares of Nevada as health officer
Dr. Tanya Phares, an experienced physician executive from Reno, Nevada, who has held several leadership roles in health care, was appointed Sonoma County’s new health officer today by the Board of Supervisors. Read full story

Sonoma County Department of Agriculture, Weights & Measures releases 2022 crop and livestock report
The total value of agricultural crops grown in Sonoma County last year was nearly $800 million, according to the 2022 Sonoma County Crop Report, which the Department of Agriculture, Weights & Measures presented to the Board of Supervisors today. Read full story

Sonoma County Probation Department awarded grant to supervise people with multiple DUI convictions
