2023 European Grapevine Moth (EGVM) Detection Trapping Begins
This is the time of year that the Sonoma County Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures (AWM), ramps up our pest detection and trapping programs. Starting March 1, 2023, we will once again deploy detection traps for European Grapevine Moth (EGVM). Trap counts and trapping densities have been reduced, but commercial vineyards will continue to be monitored. Read full story

Sonoma County issues freeze alert
The County of Sonoma is issuing a freeze alert in response to the National Weather Service’s prediction of sub-freezing temperatures overnight tonight through Thursday morning. Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite can develop with prolonged exposure to cold weather. Read full story

Negotiations Public Updates:
We are grateful for SEIU's professionalism during this round of negotiations. The County has offered substantial economic improvements as part of a fair and competitive labor agreement. SEIU’s contention that the County is “taking away existing employee benefits” is incomplete. While the County is asking legacy employees to continue and/or marginally increase contributions toward the cost of their future pension benefits, its proposal is part of a comprehensive wage and benefits package that substantially improves terms and conditions of employment for SEIU’s members. Black Therapy Fund now accepting applications for free mental health counseling in Sonoma County
The Black Therapy Fund, a new partnership between the County of Sonoma and two community groups to improve mental health services for Black residents of all ages, is now accepting applications for free mental health counseling. Read full story

The County of Sonoma and representatives of SEIU Local 1021 met for their 15th bargaining session on February 22, 2023. During the session, both parties passed comprehensive package proposals and continued to engage in discussion on open items. Read full story

Sonoma County to host two meetings to solicit public input on emergency housing sites for unsheltered people
County officials are inviting the public to take part in one of two meetings over the next week to discuss a plan to create emergency housing sites for unsheltered people on the county campus and potentially on one additional site, possibly at the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building. These community meetings are in response to actions taken during a special Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday to address the growing homeless encampment on the Joe Rodota Trail. Read full story
