Board of Supervisors authorizes planning and development of advanced composting facility in Sonoma County
The Board of Supervisors today authorized engineering and environmental planning for the first centralized composting facility in Sonoma County, which is expected to divert and process approximately 65,000 tons of organic material each year. The initiative, in alignment with the County’s Five-year Strategic Plan for Climate Action and Resiliency, moves the county toward carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and is supported by grant funding. Sonoma County topped 50 miles of repaved roads, 54 culvert replacements in 2023
Sonoma County today announced the results of the Summer 2023 road construction season, which included the resurfacing of 50 miles of county-maintained roads and the replacement of 54 culverts. The work involved a combination of roads identified for the ongoing Pavement Preservation Program and roads that qualified for repair as part of the Fire Damage Recovery Paving Project supported by PG&E settlement funds. The cost of all paving work performed during the summer was approximately $32 million. Read full story

Board of Supervisors approves plan for electric bus charging facility at Sonoma County Transit
The Board of Supervisors today approved plans for the construction of a 19-space electric bus charging facility at Sonoma County Transit located on West Robles Avenue in Santa Rosa. The new facility will provide charging for 30-foot, 35-foot, and 40-foot battery-electric transit buses in compliance with state regulations that require transit operators to transition their fleets to zero-emission vehicles by 2040. Sonoma County boosts green energy infrastructure with new mobile, solar-powered EV charging stations
Sonoma County has purchased three mobile solar-powered electric vehicle charging stations to support zero-emission vehicles and mitigate ongoing climate disruption, consistent with the Climate Action and Resiliency pillar of the County’s strategic plan. The initiative is part of a larger program to replace all eligible County Fleet internal combustion engines with electric vehicles by 2030. Read full story
Charles M. Schulz — Sonoma County Airport celebrates completion of $40 million modernized air terminal
County, state and federal representatives joined officials from the Charles M. Schulz – Sonoma County Airport today to celebrate the completion of the final phase of the $40 million air terminal modernization project. The final segment features a renovated front entrance of the terminal, which has been transformed by glass paneling. Bronze statues of Charlie Brown and Linus have also returned to the front of the terminal to welcome travelers. Read full story
Caltrans and the county reassess Bohemian Highway Bridge Project over Russian River
Caltrans has informed the County of Sonoma that it will be unable to fund a full replacement of the dilapidated Bohemian Highway Bridge in Monte Rio, as it is currently planned. Read full story
Board of Supervisors boosts funding for county’s pavement preservation program
The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a 3 percent boost in the General Fund contribution for resurfacing and maintaining the county road network, an increase that will be equal to $310,145 for fiscal year 2023-24. This is an addition to the $10 million in General Fund dollars that the board already allocates to the program each year, which supplements the gas tax funds that also are spent on road improvements in Sonoma County.
