County Government Center parking lot selected as an emergency shelter site; public forum to be held Monday
County staff have selected a parking lot at 2550 Ventura Ave. on the County Government Center campus as the location for an emergency shelter site where space for up to 90 tents will be provided for homeless individuals to live temporarily while transitioning into permanent housing. Read full story

District Attorney Announces $1.7 Million Consent Judgment with Five Gas Station Owners and Operators for Environmental Violations at Northern California Gas Stations
Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez, along with the California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the District Attorneys of Alameda, Lake, Mendocino, and Santa Clara counties, have announced a $1.7 million settlement with several owners and operators of gas stations resolving allegations that the defendants violated state environmental laws while operating above ground and underground storage tank systems at 14 gas stations. Historical Records Commission announces winners of this year’s Collections and Archives Recognition Awards
The Sonoma County Historical Records Commission today announced five recipients of its second annual Collections and Archives Recognition Awards. These awards recognize the accomplishments and contributions of individuals, groups, agencies, collections, or archives located within Sonoma County and focus on existing collections as well as recognizing special efforts to preserve and use archival material in promoting history and cultural preservation. March 7 is Election Day for two fire districts
The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters is reminding voters who reside in the Schell-Vista Fire Protection District and the Timber Cove Fire Protection District that there is an election on Tuesday, March 7. This election only applies to approximately 3,000 voters registered in these two districts. All other Sonoma County voters do not have an election this spring. Read full story

Permit Sonoma announces cannabis program update scoping meeting
Permit Sonoma will host a Comprehensive Cannabis Program Update meeting via Zoom on March 8 to solicit feedback on the scope of the proposed environmental review for the County of Sonoma’s planned cannabis program update. The Comprehensive Cannabis Program Update Environmental Impact Report will evaluate the impacts of policy proposals that could guide the future regulation of Sonoma County’s cannabis industry including its cultivation permitting process. Sonoma County issues freeze alert
The County of Sonoma is issuing a freeze alert in response to the National Weather Service’s prediction of sub-freezing temperatures overnight tonight through Thursday morning. Officials recommend that residents limit time outdoors as serious medical conditions including hypothermia and frostbite can develop with prolonged exposure to cold weather. Read full story

Prescribed pile-burning operations planned at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park Feb. 28 - March 3
Sonoma County Regional Parks is planning to conduct pile burns at Shiloh Ranch Regional Park February 28th through March 3rd. The upcoming pile burn is a continuation of fuels reduction work conducted by Park’s staff and the California Conservation Corps (CCC) that thinned vegetation along the Park’s roads and trails.
