Clerk-Recorder-Assessor-Registrar of Voters
Petitions
Introduction
This page provides information about local initiative, referendum, and recall petitions in Sonoma County that proponents are currently attempting to place on the ballot. In order to appear on this list, proponents must have officially submitted a "notice of intention to circulate" with the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office. Petitions are listed in order by date the notice of intention was filed, with petitions filed most recently appearing at the top.
Note: This page does not explain how to place a local initiative, referendum, or recall petition on the ballot. If you are interested in learning about the steps involved in that process, visit our Recalls, Initiatives, and Referendums page.
For petition purposes, "local" refers to any of the following types of jurisdictions:
- County
- School districts
- Special districts (i.e., fire protection districts, water districts, etc.)
It does not refer to either of the following types of jurisdictions:
- Municipal. A notice of intention to circulate a municipal initiative, referendum, or recall petition must be filed with the relevant city elections official (typically the city clerk).
- State. A notice of intention to circulate a state initiative, referendum, or recall petition must be filed with the California Secretary of State's Office. For a list of active state initiatives and referendums, visit Initiative and Referendum Qualification Status. For a list of active recall efforts against state officials, visit Current Recall Efforts.
