The County of Sonoma Climate Resilience Comprehensive Action Plan

Sonoma County’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division drafted a Climate Resilience Comprehensive Action Plan (Climate Plan) to provide a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the County’s internal municipal operations and make those operations more resilient to climate hazards that increasingly threaten Sonoma County.

 

The County of Sonoma Greenhouse Gas Inventory

To continue progress toward reaching carbon neutrality and other sustainability goals, the County has completed a series of local government operations greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories to understand its emissions profile and trends and inform future climate action efforts.

 

Municipal Waste Audit and Characterization Study

The Zero Waste Audit and Characterization Study (ZWACS) was identified as a necessary step to establish a baseline understanding of current waste levels and conditions and outline a path to making all County facilities zero waste.

 

Sonoma County Carbon Stock Inventory and Potential Sequestration Study

The purpose of this Carbon Inventory and Sequestration Potential Study is to establish the first detailed quantitative estimate of Sonoma County’s historical and existing carbon stocks and changes over time. This is a critical first step in meeting local, State, and national climate goals as it identifies baseline conditions, and methods for identifying changes in carbon stocks over time.

 

Resilient Lands Strategy

Sonoma County’s Climate Action and Resiliency Division and Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District have collaborated to create the Sonoma County Climate Resilient Lands Strategy, a document designed to provide structure and guidance for climate-related efforts, with a focus on natural and working lands.
