Foster Youth to Independence Initiative
The Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative makes rental assistance available to Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) in partnership with Public Child Welfare Agencies (PCWA). Eligible Youth who are at least 18 years and not more than 24 years of age who left foster care or will leave foster care within 90 days and are homeless or at risk of homelessness are referred for rental assistance by the PCWA.
FYI voucher rental assistance is limited to 36 months. An additional 24 months may be granted for youth who meet eligibility for an extension. Youth are provided supportive services through partner agency to assist on their path to self-sufficiency.
