Remaining Active as You Age is the Best Way to Prevent Falls
Falls are the #1 reason older adults end up in the emergency room. Most falls are from the ground level (like slipping on a rug) and often cause a rapid decline in health.

- Staying active is key to preventing a first or repeat fall

- You will learn to maintain or improve your strength, flexibility, balance and coordination
AAA Safe Mobility/Fall Prevention Programs
Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging (AAA) currently offers two free programs:
- A Matter of Balance – A series of 8 two-hour group classes led by trained coaches at different locations throughout Sonoma County.
- Fall Prevention & Better Balance – A series of 5 one-hour classes led by trained coaches and offered online for participation from your own home.
In both classes, the coaches will help you:
- Take steps to manage your fear-of-falling
- Set your own goals to increase activity
- Learn and practice simple exercises
- Identify and fix fall hazards in your home

Become a Certified Coach
We rely on volunteers to help us grow our programs and make them available to older adults. Please join us if you*:
- Are enthusiastic about helping people stay active
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Can facilitate small group discussions
- Are able to perform low-intensity exercise while instructing others
*We offer stipends to certified coaches to deliver these classes.

Host a Course
We rely on community partners to help us reach older adults where they live. If you have
to older adults. Please join us if your organization has*:
- An accessible location for conducting the class
- Quiet space that accommodates between 12-20 people to comfortably perform chair-exercises & participate in discussion
- Audiovisual equipment for viewing videos
- The ability to participate in program promotion (fliers provided)
- Capacity to serve as Zoom host (Fall Prevention & Better Balance only)
