CAC appointments and Sheriff's Response to Use of Force recommendations
Published: February 03, 2020
Dear Community Partners:
We have been very busy at IOLERO finalizing appointments for the incoming CAC, completing the hiring process for our new full-time employee, collecting data on de-escalation and the use-of-force, and participating in outreach such as the MLK Day celebration at Community Baptist Church. Please read below for important updates on these topics and more.
CAC Appointments
Appointments to IOLERO's CAC are now finalized. The incoming CAC is fully seated at nine members. This is an exciting and important development because the CAC has not had a full nine members present at a CAC meeting since approximately August of 2018. The incoming CAC is comprised of a dynamic and diverse group of community leaders from all five districts of Sonoma County. We are excited to present to you the incoming CAC. Sheriff's Response to Prior CAC's Use of Force Recommendations
The Sheriff's Office provided a response to the prior CAC's Use of Force Recommendations. IOLERO has already started collecting data from agencies throughout California in order to research and provide persuasive, evidenced-based data and facts to support some of the previous CAC’s recommendations such as the elimination of (or changes to) the policy on the use of the carotid hold, other force techniques and de-escalation. IOLERO and the incoming CAC will address additional issues (beyond the carotid hold, force techniques and de-escalation) once the full internal affairs investigation related to the death of David Ward is received and audited by IOLERO. The Use of Force Questionnaire
The deadline for Questionnaire related to Use of Force by the Sheriff's Office and the death of David Ward has been extended to February 24, 2020. Your input is important. Download the questionnaire here
First CAC Meeting of 2020
The first meeting of the incoming CAC will take place tonight from 6pm-7:30pm at the Guerneville Library. Review the agenda here
New Full Time Employee for IOLERO
After a rigorous interview process, a candidate is currently in background for IOLERO's full-time Programs Manager position. We are hoping to have our new-hire on board and helping us to get IOLERO back on track by this spring.
The next CAC Meeting
Will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 6pm-7:30pm. Please check the calendar section of our website in the next few weeks for the location announcement.
