Nomination deadline approaches for two new potential Timber Cove Fire Protection District seats in March
SANTA ROSA, CA | December 05, 2022
The Sonoma County Registrar of Voters is reminding voters residing in the Timber Cove Fire Protection District that the deadline to file for two new potential seats on the district’s Board of Directors in the upcoming March 7, 2023 Special Election is 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.
The Board of Directors passed a resolution in October calling a March election to place two related items before the voters:
- A measure asking whether the number of members of the Board of Directors shall be increased from three to five.
- An electoral contest to determine who should fill the two new seats should a majority of voters approve the measure.
The only qualification requirement to be a candidate is being a registered voter in the district. Declarations of candidacy must be filed at the Registrar of Voters Office at 435 Fiscal Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95403. No filing fee and no nomination signatures are needed.
In the event that the measure passes and (1) there are no nominees or an insufficient number of nominees for the office and (2) a petition for an election was not filed within the time period prescribed by California Elections Code § 10515(a) (5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14), the supervising authority (Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, per California Elections Code § 10500(b)(13)) will make appointments to each elective office.
For further information, please contact the Registrar of Voters Office by calling (707) 565-6800 or emailing rov-info@sonoma-county.org. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays (excluding county holidays).
