Nomination period opens November 13 for March Primary Election
SANTA ROSA, CA | November 09, 2023
Nominations open November 13 for 21 federal, state and county offices that will be on the ballot in Sonoma County for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Candidates interested in running for these positions must take out nomination papers and file them at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters by 5 p.m. on December 8. If nomination papers for an incumbent are not filed by 5 p.m. on December 8, candidates other than the incumbent have until 5 p.m. on December 13 to file for the elective office. The offices for which nominations are opening are as follows:

*Superior Court Judge candidates must have already paid their filing fee and filed a Declaration of Intention between October 30 and November 8 in order to take out nomination papers during the nomination period. Exception: If a filing fee is not paid and/or a Declaration of Intention not filed by an incumbent Superior Court Judge by November 8, candidates other than the incumbent have until November 13 to pay their filing fee and file a Declaration of Intention.
Nominations are also ongoing for 58 County Central Committee seats for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Interested candidates have until 5 p.m. on December 8 to take out nomination papers and file them at the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office. Candidates must be registered to vote with the same political party as the committee for which they are running. There is no extended nomination period for County Central Committee seats. The County Central Committee seats for which nominations are ongoing are as follows:

- Peace and Freedom Party County Central Committee
- At-Large (seven seats)
Note: Members of the American Independent Party notified the California Secretary of State’s Office that they would not be using the public ballot process to elect their county central committee members in 2024. The Libertarian Party did not notify the Sonoma County Registrar of Voters Office of its intention to use the public ballot process to elect county central committee members in 2024.
