Published: March 18, 2022
The Sonoma County Historical Records Commission today announced four recipients of its inaugural Collections and Archives Recognition Awards. These awards recognize the accomplishments and contributions of individuals, groups, agencies, collections, or archives located within Sonoma County and focus on existing collections as well as recognizing special efforts to preserve and use archival material in promoting history and cultural preservation.
The awards will be presented in conjunction with the Sonoma County Historical Society’s annual meeting at the Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa on March 20.
This year, the Commission will bestow four separate awards to a diverse group of individuals and organizations. The recipients include:
- Judy Gustafson, who will be honored for more than 10 years of dedicated volunteer service to the Cotati Historical Society.
- The Sonoma Valley Historical Society will be recognized for its ongoing work to document and preserve the valley’s historical record.
- The Santa Rosa High School Foundation will win an award for its ongoing work with the Santa Rosa High School Museum to document the history of that nearly 150-year-old institution.
- The Special Collections Archive of the Sonoma State University Library and the Office of Cultural Resource Studies of Caltrans District 4 will share an award for their partnership in rescuing and preserving historical records relating to highway construction in Sonoma County from the early 1940s through the late 1960s.
The Sonoma County Historical Society annual luncheon and awards ceremony is set to take place on Sunday, March 20 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Flamingo Resort, 2777 4th St. in Santa Rosa. For more information, visit sonomacountyhistory.org/annual-luncheon.
