Conference to celebrate Sonoma County community health workers
SANTA ROSA, CA | September 27, 2022
The Sonoma County Department of Health Services is hosting a conference to celebrate the community health workers and promotoras in Sonoma County for their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“During the pandemic, these health workers were at the frontlines guiding and connecting the community to the complex network of the health care system,” said Dr. Sundari Mase, Sonoma County’s Health Officer, who will give the keynote speech at the conference. “This conference is a celebration of their work, to honor their presence, and give an opportunity for healing and community building.”
What: Community Health Workers and Promotoras are Heroes Conference
Who: Sonoma County Department of Health Services
Where: Flamingo Hotel, Santa Rosa
When: Oct. 21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The conference will include:
- Recognition of two community health workers and one community health worker ally nominated by their peers
- Training in three workshops
- Mind/body medicine
- COVID-19 tools and updates
- Community Health Worker Core Consensus (C3) Project
- A resource and career fair
- Healing and self care activities hosted by local organizations for community building
Sonoma County received a 3-year $6 million grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to train community health workers and promotoras and place them in health clinics.
