Sonoma County launches new community health dashboard
SANTA ROSA, CA | August 16, 2023
The Sonoma County Department of Health Services today launched a new community health dashboard to increase public awareness of local health trends and improve the community’s ability to respond to changing health needs.
A dashboard is an online tool that summarizes and presents health care and demographic data in ways that makes it easy to visualize and understand. The Community Health Dashboard includes information in English and Spanish and interactive, user-friendly data displays.
“The bilingual, interactive dashboard is designed to serve as a resource for elected officials, health professionals, community-based organizations and the public to increase awareness of emerging health trends and facilitate data-informed decision making to address health inequities in the community,” said Supervisor Chris Coursey, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. “This will be a key tool in helping public health officials identify community needs and facilitate resource planning.”
The dashboard, reviewed Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors, will initially focus on five categories of health indicators:
- Prevention and resiliency
- Health care access and utilization
- Physical well-being
- Emotional well-being
- Longevity
The Department of Health Services’ Health Data and Epidemiology unit conducted research and engaged multiple stakeholders to identify priority indicators for inclusion in the initial draft of the dashboard. Additional data will soon be added to highlight social, economic and other non-medical factors that shape the health of communities. The dashboard will continue to be updated and refined based on community feedback and as new data sources become available.
